This 20,000 square foot facility provides space for the activities of children and adults of the Laotian and Hmong community at the Mt. Airy Housing Complex. The owner is the Public Housing Agency of the City of St. Paul. The center includes a variety of programs: Headstart, child care, Early Childhood Family Education, English as a Second Language, adult education, social work, food shelf, clinic, Boys and Girls Club, computer education labs, and management offices. An exterior plaza flows out of the meeting room to provide gathering space. The project was coordinated with the master plan being implemented for the entire housing site. Site work included landscaping, parking, utility relocation and playground space.
McMonigal Architects received one of six national design awards from NAHRO, National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials for Mt. Airy Community Center.
