Like many centers, Logan Recreation Center offers an essential gathering place for youth and adults, and countless sports and activities in this Northeast Minneapolis neighborhood. McMonigal Architects completely redesigned the reception area by removing a sunken seating area and unused fireplace, and relocating the reception desk to a more centrally located area with better sight lines to entries, halls, and rooms with space to gather around. The reception desk has lower sections that meet the accessible height and approach requirements, as well as taller sections that serve standing people and hide computer, printers, files, and cords. The epoxy flooring has darker stripes that align with the existing building piers and organize game and seating areas.
Two community kitchens, one large and one small, and an arts and crafts room were remodeled. Cabinets, counters, sinks, and appliances were planned to meet needs of classes, meetings, meal programs, and rental.
