Freedom Farm is a therapeutic horse riding center for those “whose lives, minds, and bodies are not as free.” Adjacent to the Farm sits the Lake Ida Schoolhouse, a one room schoolhouse used from 1860 through 1972.
Freedom Farm purchased the historic structure, which had been neglected for years. McMonigal Architects restored the Schoolhouse and designed an addition with a kitchen, eating area, meeting room, restrooms with a shower, and storage rooms. The addition is compatible with the original brick structure, which is connected with a glass link.
The new facility has allowed Freedom Farm to expand its classroom, conference, and counseling programs for multiple user groups. The building and interior spaces are now accessible. McMonigal Architects donated all of their services.
