Working closely with the Minneapolis Public Housing Authority and The Cedars residents, McMonigal Architects identified work for phased improvements over a ten-year period. The four high-rise buildings were modernized, including renovation of all community gathering and education spaces, life safety, security improvements, mechanical and electrical upgrades. A new pavilion building constructed on the site serves as the central community space for all residents, providing room for congregate dining, a commercial kitchen and property management offices. Our exterior site work included evaluating traffic, parking, vegetation, pedestrian circulation, noise, emergency vehicle, metro transit and Light Rail station access and new exterior signage design.
