This classic two-story house is tucked deep into surrounding woods.  The client felt the house lacked character, openness and light filled spaces.  Their initial reaction was to build a large addition, but chose to remodel after the design process showed better utilizing existing space.

The remodeling enlarged the kitchen, and gained a laundry and mudroom.  The kitchen is the focus of the home, has classic details, glass upper cabinets, and various finishes on the cabinets.  A glass door links the kitchen to a new screen porch.  Removing the wall between the kitchen and dining allows light and views to the front and back yards, enlarges both rooms, and allows easy flow.   An opening was created between the kitchen and living, a room previously isolated from the rest of the house and seldom used.

Exterior improvements include a covered front porch for a protected entry, with trellis and bracket details.
