Originally designed by the architect Harry Wild Jones, this 1909 Tudor has enough space (about 7000 sf), but many of the rooms were outdated and the center of the structure had settled over time resulting in dramatically sloped floors.
The homeowners first approached McMonigal Architects to find a way to make the four floors accessible for their adult son as well as for them to age-in-place long-term. Multiple options with an elevator, both located within the footprint of the home and as an addition were studied, as was remodeling and converting the third floor into a separate apartment.
The project evolved into structural shoring, updating impacted rooms, and other remodeling. On second floor, owner’s suite was created with a walk-in closet and an adjacent bedroom was converted to the owner’s bath. The remodeled spaces bring new life while reflecting the home’s historic character.
